While the Atlanta Braves took a break on Thursday following a difficult trip to California, one of the franchise’s greatest icons shared a memorable personal milestone that gave fans something to celebrate away from the field.
The Braves are coming off a disappointing three-game sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres and will try to regroup Friday night when they open a series against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. But before that West Coast trip began, Hall of Famer Chipper Jones stopped by 680 The Fan for an interview that ended with an unexpected announcement.
Chipper Jones Shares Family Milestone
Jones revealed that his oldest son had recently gotten married during a celebration in Athens, Georgia.
“This past weekend I just married off my oldest son,” Jones said. “So we had quite a time over there in Athens, Georgia, getting him married. Yeah, I’m going to recover for a couple days.”
The hosts quickly shifted the conversation toward one of the oldest wedding traditions, joking about who ended up paying for the celebration.
“Wait a minute now,” one host said. “Help me out on this. Typically the bride’s parents pay for this, but you’re not always marrying into the Chipper family. So how does the check get written for this?”
Jones laughed off the question without revealing any details.
“I’m going to reserve comment on that at this time,” he replied. “You and I can share a beverage at some point and I’ll let you in on the secret.”
Hall of Famer Reflects on the Celebration
The conversation then turned to the reception, where Jones admitted he did spend some time on the dance floor.
“I did a little bit,” he said. “Yeah, I did. I had a cowboy hat on too. It was glorious.”
Asked whether classics like the Electric Slide or the Macarena made an appearance, Jones had another lighthearted response.
“I did get out there for the wobble,” he said. “We did not have the electric slide. Or at least I may have been in the bathroom when they did the electric slide. I’m not sure.”
For Braves fans, it was a rare glimpse into the personal life of a player who remains one of the most beloved figures in franchise history. Although Jones retired after the 2012 season, his connection to Atlanta has never faded. He spent his entire 19-year Major League career with the Braves, becoming the face of the organization for nearly two decades.
Jones helped lead Atlanta to the postseason 12 times and was a key member of the club’s 1995 World Series championship team. His accomplishments eventually earned him a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest switch-hitters and third basemen the game has ever seen.

As Jones celebrates an important family milestone, the current Braves squad is looking to create some positive momentum of its own. Atlanta enters its series against San Francisco with a 48-31 record through 79 games, good for first place in the National League East.
