The Arizona Fall League is underway, and several Atlanta Braves prospects will get valuable extra reps with the Glendale Desert Dogs. Action began Tuesday, with a mix of Major Leaguers, top prospects, and emerging talent representing the organization in Arizona.

Nacho Alvarez Jr.: Making up for lost Braves time

It’s rare for a Major Leaguer to play in the AFL, but Nacho Alvarez Jr. has a clear reason.

The 21-year-old infielder missed Spring Training and the first two months of the 2025 season due to a wrist injury. His return coincided with Austin Riley’s abdominal injury, giving Alvarez an extended look at third base in Atlanta. The Braves now want him to regain the developmental time he lost.

For Alvarez, Arizona offers consistent at-bats and a chance to refine his swing timing heading into 2026.

Luke Sinnard (No. 16 prospect): Building innings and momentum

The Braves’ 2024 third-round pick enters the Fall League after an encouraging professional debut.

Sinnard, who missed his draft year recovering from Tommy John surgery, impressed across two levels in 2025. He posted a 0.92 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in seven starts with Single-A Augusta before earning a promotion to High-A Rome, where he held a 1.19 WHIP and 4.19 ERA across nine outings.

The AFL will be a valuable opportunity for Sinnard to build innings and test his command against advanced competition. With Atlanta’s track record of developing young arms, the 22-year-old right-hander could climb quickly if he stays healthy.

Jhancarlos Lara (No. 21 prospect): Late addition, high upside

Lara joined the Desert Dogs roster late but brings intriguing upside. The hard-throwing right-hander made his first Major League call-up late last season, though he didn’t appear in a game.

In the minors, Lara’s fastball and slider combination helped him dominate lower-level hitters. The Braves view the 21-year-old as a potential bullpen weapon down the line. Arizona will allow him to face more disciplined bats and refine his control in high-leverage spots.

What’s next

Atlanta’s AFL contingent offers a mix of recovery, development, and evaluation opportunities — particularly for Alvarez, who could play his way into a larger role in 2026. Sinnard and Lara, meanwhile, are part of a new wave of pitching depth that the Braves hope will sustain the organization’s long-term success.
