The Atlanta Braves bullpen picture just got a little clearer—but not in the way Angel Perdomo was hoping. After spending spring training battling for a spot in Atlanta’s relief corps, Perdomo is officially headed west. The Braves have traded the left-handed reliever to the Los Angeles Angels for a Player To Be Named Later (PTBNL).
Perdomo’s Spring Training Performance

Perdomo’s spring performance wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. He struck out six batters over 7.1 innings. That is solid, but he also allowed three hits, four walks, and two earned runs.
The command issues were likely a concern, but it’s mentioning that he was still working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Perdomo missed the entire 2023 season due to the injury, and Atlanta took a low-risk chance on him this past offseason to see if he could regain his form.
The Braves Needed to Make a Roster Decision
The Braves’ bullpen competition was already tight, but Perdomo’s status as a lefty gave him a fighting chance to make the roster. Atlanta is currently leaning on two other southpaws—Aaron Bummer and Dylan Lee—so having another option could’ve been useful.
But there was one big problem: Perdomo was out of minor-league options. That meant the team had to either keep him on the active roster or risk losing him on waivers.
Rather than gamble on that process, they found a trade partner in the Angels and at least received something in return.
What Exactly Are the Braves Getting in Return?
Now, the question becomes: What exactly is that “something”? PTBNL trades can sometimes feel like baseball’s version of a mystery grab bag.
Braves fans might remember a similar situation with the Angels not too long ago. In that situation, a player was supposed to be named later but never was. Instead, cash was quietly exchanged, which was the end.
Will that be the case here? Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, Angel Perdomo is heading to the Angels, and Atlanta’s bullpen picture for 2025 just got a little clearer. The countdown to Opening Day continues.
