The Atlanta Braves may finally be closing in on a much-needed boost for an offense that has struggled to find consistency in recent weeks. If everything stays on schedule, Ronald Acuna Jr. could be back in the lineup shortly after the All-Star break.

The organization announced that Acuna will begin a rehab assignment Monday with the FCL Braves, marking the next step in his recovery from his second hamstring injury of the 2026 season. While rehab assignments do not guarantee an immediate return, they are often the clearest indication that a player is nearing game action at the major league level.

Atlanta has managed to survive without its superstar right fielder, but it has hardly been an ideal situation. Production from the right field position has been uneven throughout Acuna’s absence, forcing the Braves to rely on a patchwork approach. Even so, the club has still produced the ninth-highest Wins Above Average total in baseball at 1.8, a testament to the roster’s overall talent. Adding a healthy Acuna back into the lineup would almost certainly strengthen that figure while giving the offense another dangerous presence at the top of the order.

Acuna will not be the only notable player beginning a rehab assignment. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is also scheduled to report to the FCL Braves, giving Atlanta another encouraging injury update as the second half approaches.

Having both players return at the same time gives the Braves an opportunity to strengthen two important positions as they prepare for the stretch run. While each player’s timetable will depend on how their rehab progresses, Atlanta appears to be getting healthier at a critical point in the season.

Injuries Continue to Interrupt Acuna’s Career

Acuna’s availability has become one of the biggest questions surrounding his career. Since tearing his ACL in 2021, staying on the field has proven difficult. A second ACL tear in 2024, followed by two injured list stints in 2026, has limited the former National League MVP to just 197 games out of a possible 419 over that stretch. The repeated injuries have interrupted what once appeared to be an uninterrupted ascent toward becoming one of baseball’s most durable superstars.

There is little doubt about what Acuna brings when he is healthy. His remarkable 2023 campaign, which included 40 home runs, 70 stolen bases, and the National League MVP Award, remains one of the most complete offensive seasons in recent memory. Few players can impact a game in as many ways, whether it’s getting on base, driving the ball into the gaps, stealing bases, or changing the energy inside the ballpark.

Braves Searching for an Offensive Spark

That kind of spark is exactly what the Braves have been missing. Atlanta has gone 10-16 over its last 26 games while averaging 4.2 runs per contest. That average has been helped significantly by a pair of 10-run performances, masking longer stretches where the offense struggled to generate consistent production. Outside of those breakout games, the Braves have often found themselves searching for timely hits and sustained rallies.

If Acuna’s rehab progresses without setbacks, his return could arrive at an ideal time. The Braves are still positioned to make noise, but they need their lineup to regain the explosiveness that defined the first two and a half months of the season. A healthy Ronald Acuna Jr. may be the catalyst Atlanta has been waiting for as it looks to regain momentum heading into the second half.
