After a Sunday rainout and a couple of days of stewing in silence, Atlanta Braves fans are left with one burning question. Is this team about to bounce back after their worse start in a long time or continue to fall?

Let’s call it what it is—1-8 ain’t pretty. It’s not early-season jitters or bad luck. It’s downright awful and has caused The Athletic’s power rankings to take notice.

The team has practically lived in the top five over the last few years but just dropped to 10th in a hurry. You can chalk some of it up to early stumbles, but when does the eye test match the box scores?

This skid has fans grumbling, sportswriters speculating, and the Phillies licking their chops. What’s coming next is a pivotal three-game stretch against a division rival that’s just waiting to pile the bad onto the Braves even more.

This isn’t just another series; this is a moment where the Braves either punch back or keep taking hits.

Braves Injury Woes: Reynaldo Lopez Sidelined

Just when you think things couldn’t get worse, the news comes in on Reynaldo Lopez. The hard-throwing righty was expected to be a key cog in Atlanta’s rotation.

Now, he’s heading to the operating table for arthroscopic shoulder surgery. That’s not a day-to-day situation. That’s a “grab the calendar and start guessing when, or if, he’s coming back this season” moment.

Shoulder injuries for pitchers are never minor. Even best-case scenarios come with setbacks. And with Lopez likely out through the All-Star break—or possibly the whole season—the Braves’ depth just got tested in a major way.

If you’re looking for a silver lining, it’s time to talk goggles. Yes, goggles. Enter Nick Allen, who many had penciled in as nothing more than a late-inning defensive sub when he arrived in Atlanta.

But a quiet vision issue—an astigmatism, to be exact—was holding him back. Now, thanks to corrective eyewear, he’s seeing the ball better and, more importantly, hitting it better.

Allen is now challenging Orlando Arcia for reps at short, and the numbers don’t lie. He’s making contact and putting together quality at-bats.
