Look who’s back in Atlanta Braves camp! Jake Marisnick has reportedly joined Atlanta’s non-roster invitee squad, and while it’s not officially on the transaction page yet, all signs point to a minor-league deal.
Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was the first to report that Marisnick has already arrived at camp, which means the veteran outfielder is getting another shot with the organization.
A Familiar Face in Atlanta
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Marisnick has been here before. The Braves signed him back in August 2022 on a minor-league deal. While he never got the call-up to the big league roster, he did stick around as a taxi squad member for the NLDS against the Phillies.
Now, at 33, he’s back in the mix, hoping to carve out a role in an already stacked Braves outfield.
Strong 2023 in Triple-A Despite Injuries
Marisnick spent last season in the Los Angeles Angels organization, playing 54 games with Triple-A Salt Lake City. His numbers were actually solid—he slashed .283/.368/.551 with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs.
That’s impressive, considering he spent a good chunk of the season bouncing on and off the Injured List with an undisclosed injury.
If he had stayed healthy, he was on pace for a 30-homer season in Triple-A, and interestingly enough, most of his home runs came on the road.
That’s worth noting because while Utah’s elevation is over 4,000 feet, it’s not quite Coors Field levels of hitter-friendly conditions.
A Long Shot for the Braves Roster
Now, let’s talk about his Major League experience. Marisnick last saw big-league action in 2023, and it was a bit of a whirlwind year.
He played for not one, not two, but three different teams—the Dodgers, White Sox, and Tigers. The White Sox barely used him, just once bringing him in as a defensive replacement.
Across 34 games with those three clubs, he hit .237/.280/.408 with two home runs and 10 RBIs—not exactly numbers that scream “must-have MLB starter,” but he still has value as a veteran depth piece.
So, what’s the outlook for Marisnick in Atlanta? Let’s be honest—it’s a long shot that he cracks the Opening Day roster. The Braves are already deep in the outfield, and unless there’s an injury or unexpected roster shuffle, he’s more likely to serve as outfield depth in Triple-A Gwinnett.
But hey, he’s in big league camp, which means he has a shot. Stranger things have happened in baseball.
