Here we go again—another day, another round of roster moves as the Atlanta Braves trim the big league camp.
This time, its utility man Eddy Alvarez and right-hander Chad Kuhl are reassigned to minor league camp, bringing the major league roster down to 48 players. Nothing shocking, but let’s break it down.
Eddy Alvarez: Versatile but Struggling at the Plate

If you’ve been following his career, you know Alvarez has one of the most fascinating backstories in baseball.
A two-time Olympic silver medalist—not just in baseball, but also in speed skating—he’s made his mark as a versatile defender, capable of playing both infield and outfield.
The Braves brought him in this offseason for some organizational depth. While his glove is valuable, his bat didn’t quite make an impact this spring—just one hit in 11 at-bats.
That’s not going to turn heads. With the infield depth Atlanta already has, it makes sense to see him slide down to Gwinnett for now.
Chad Kuhl: Veteran Arm on the Outside Looking In
Then there’s Chad Kuhl, a veteran right-hander with nearly a decade of big-league experience. He’s been both a starter and a reliever in his career, giving teams some flexibility on the mound.
Last year, he pitched in 31 games for the White Sox, and this spring, he put up decent numbers—three appearances, just one run allowed, four strikeouts, three walks.
His production is nothing eye-popping, but serviceable. Still, with the competition for bullpen spots heating up, he’s the odd man out for now.
What’s Next For the Braves?
So, what’s next for these guys? Most likely, they’ll be heading to Triple-A Gwinnett and staying ready in case Atlanta needs reinforcements.
And given how long a season can be, there’s always a chance we see one or both of them back in a Braves uniform at some point.
But for now, it’s a numbers game, and Atlanta’s roster is getting tighter as we inch closer to Opening Day.
