Astros fans have been eating well lately, and not just because the bats have been hot. Carlos Correa is back in orange and navy, and through his first nine games, he’s looked like he never left: .405 batting average, .476 OBP, .622 slugging, two homers, six RBIs.

But for Correa, this reunion isn’t just about the stat line. When asked what his favorite part of returning to Houston was, he didn’t hesitate: “Playing with Jose Altuve again.” Simple. Direct. And exactly what Astros fans wanted to hear.

From 2015 to 2021, Correa and Altuve were the faces of Houston’s infield — and, depending on who you ask, the faces of baseball’s most controversial dynasty. They celebrated the franchise’s first World Series title in 2017 together. They also stood shoulder to shoulder when the sign-stealing scandal blew up in 2019, weathering the boos, the headlines, and the spotlight.

Correa left for Minnesota in 2022, but when the Twins started selling at this year’s deadline, Houston pounced — sending him right back to where he first became a star. Now, in their 30s, with Altuve mixing time at second, left field, and DH, the two are once again sharing the diamond and the spotlight.

Monday night against the Red Sox, the ovation for both is going to be deafening. Houston loves a homegrown hero, and this is as close to a baseball rom-com reunion as you’re going to get — minus the dramatic airport chase.

For the Houston Astros, the hope is simple: keep Correa hitting like this, keep the chemistry alive, and maybe the rest of the league will have to deal with the most famous infield duo in baseball all over again come October.
