Former Braves Freddie Freeman’s life away from the field has taken another turn, this time marked by a long-awaited first. On April 19, the Los Angeles Dodgers star and his wife, Chelsea, welcomed their fourth child, a daughter named London Rosemary Joy. The announcement arrived two days later, shared publicly with a photo and a name that quickly drew attention across sports and entertainment circles.

For the Freemans, the moment carries weight beyond a routine birth announcement. This is their first daughter after years of navigating a complicated path to expand their family. Back in February, they confirmed the pregnancy, noting that they had again turned to surrogacy following earlier fertility struggles. By mid-March, they revealed the baby’s gender, making it clear that this pregnancy carried a different emotional tone.

Their journey to this point has not followed a straight line. After marrying, they welcomed their first son, Charlie, within two years. Attempts to grow their family afterward proved more difficult, leading them to pursue surrogacy. That process resulted in the birth of Brandon. In a rare and unusual overlap, Chelsea also became pregnant after a successful embryo transfer, leading to the birth of Max just months later.

A Family Tested by a Rare Diagnosis

The past year added another layer of strain. In 2024, Max was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological condition that left him temporarily paralyzed. He spent time in the pediatric ICU while the family managed the situation largely out of public view, aside from occasional updates Chelsea chose to share. Recovery has been gradual, with Chelsea stating earlier this year that Max had regained roughly 80 percent of his mobility and reflexes.

Health Scares Continue Right Up to the Birth

Even in the days leading up to London’s birth, health concerns did not fully ease. Chelsea documented a hospital visit for a routine colonoscopy, admitting she had been anxious beforehand. The procedure itself, she said, was straightforward, though the preparation proved more difficult than the test. She described the experience as worthwhile, framing it as a necessary step for long-term health.

Now, with London’s arrival, the family enters a new chapter shaped by both relief and reflection. The reactions online—from athletes, media figures, and longtime followers—point to how closely people have tracked their story. For the Freemans, the announcement signals something simpler: after years of complications, they finally have the daughter they had hoped for.
