Ron Washington’s run as manager of the Los Angeles Angels has come to a close. The club declined his option for 2026 after a disappointing year and a midseason health scare, according to CBS.

Washington underwent quadruple bypass surgery in June and missed extended time while recovering. The Angels were 40–40 when he stepped away, but faded badly in his absence, finishing 72–90. In two seasons at the helm, Washington posted a 103–139 record.

Before heading west, Washington spent seven seasons as Atlanta’s third base coach from 2017 through 2023. He became a fixture in Braves Country, celebrated for his work with infielders and his role in the 2021 World Series championship.

Players frequently credited him as both a motivator and a teacher, and his departure last winter left a leadership void on Brian Snitker’s staff. Braves fans still speak of “Wash” with reverence for his influence during the club’s rise to the top of the National League.

What’s next for Washington

Washington has not announced his future plans, but reports indicate he wants to continue coaching rather than move into a front office role. At 72 and coming off major surgery, the path forward may depend on his health and the opportunities available.

For Braves fans, his exit from Anaheim is a reminder of the impact he made in Atlanta. Even away from Truist Park, Ron Washington remains tied to the culture of a championship team.
