Noah Syndergaard, the former flame-throwing ace of the New York Mets, is one step closer to completing a long road back to the majors. The Chicago White Sox have officially promoted the 32-year-old right-hander to Triple-A Charlotte, putting him just one rung below the big leagues after a nearly year-long absence from the mound.

Syndergaard hadn’t pitched a single inning in the 2024 season before joining the Sox earlier this year. Since signing, he’s been rehabbing in the Arizona Complex League, where he posted a 2.91 ERA across 15.1 innings with 12 strikeouts in four starts. Modest numbers, but the key takeaway? He’s healthy. For a pitcher who once terrorized lineups with 100-mph heat and a hammer curve, health is half the battle.

Now, he’s set to face tougher competition with Charlotte, just as MLB clubs return from the All-Star break and begin sizing up second-half call-ups.

There’s little reason to keep Syndergaard in Triple-A for long, especially if he proves serviceable. With fans restless and the team well out of contention, giving a familiar name like Syndergaard some starts in the majors could help sell a few more tickets and maybe even unearth a surprise contributor.

At 32 years old, Syndergaard isn’t exactly ancient, and stranger comebacks have happened. Even if the power stuff isn’t fully back, his experience and savvy could make him a value asset—if not this season, then as a flyer for 2026.

For now, Thor is climbing the ladder again. The cape might be a little tattered, the hammer not quite as heavy—but make no mistake: he’s not done yet.
