What teams are interested in versatile All-Star free agent Alex Bregman?

Alex Bregman entered free agency as one of the most accomplished infielders available, yet his market has been surprisingly quiet.

He is known for his elite defense, power at the plate, and leadership. Bregman seemed destined to attract multiple suitors. However, as the offseason unfolds, the list of potential landing spots is narrowing.

Initially, many expected the Astros and Yankees to lead the charge. The Astros have been Bregman’s home for his entire career, and re-signing him seemed logical.

But Houston’s infield makeover, including the acquisition of Isaac Paredes, has closed that door. The Yankees, similarly, were a popular choice, especially with an opening at third base.

However, after signing Paul Goldschmidt and already absorbing one qualifying penalty offer with Max Fried, New York appears unwilling to pay the price for Bregman.

MLB Teams Interested in Alex Bregman

The Tigers seemed like a strong contender due to Bregman’s relationship with manager A.J. Hinch. Yet Detroit’s recent acquisition of Gleyber Torres has left their infield crowded, leaving Bregman without a clear role. That brings us to the Mets and Phillies.

With Steve Cohen’s deep pockets, New York could easily slide Bregman into third base, especially if they don’t re-sign Pete Alonso. Meanwhile, the Phillies would need to move Alec Bohm to make room for Bregman.

Perhaps the most intriguing fit is Boston. The Red Sox have retooled their pitching staff but remain in search of a right-handed bat.

If they shuffle their infield—trading Triston Casas and moving Rafael Devers to first base—Bregman could fill a crucial need at second base.

One thing is clear: Bregman’s versatility and experience make him a valuable asset, and a resolution to his free agency feels inevitable as Spring Training approaches.
