ESPN revealed the winners of the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Honoring the top defensive player at every spot in both the National and American Leagues, the award recognizes elite fielding. For the Atlanta Braves, the news is already good. Matt Olson has won his fourth Gold Glove at first base, per MLB.com. He joins a short list of active players who have won this honor multiple times.

The voting process mixes old-school eyes with new-school numbers. MLB managers and coaches cast 75% of the votes, while the sabermetrics community handles the other 25%. Managers and coaches can only vote for players in their own league and cannot pick anyone on their own team. This year, each league had three finalists for every spot, including the new utility position. The utility spot was added for the first time in 2022.

Olson Joins Elite Company

Matt Olson is now a four-time winner at first base, with titles coming in 2018, 2019, 2025, and 2026. The Braves, per MLB.com, note he joins Paul Goldschmidt and Christian Walker of the Astros as active leaders at the position. Walker just won his fourth award, his first with Houston after three straight years with the Diamondbacks. Walker tied for the American League lead in Fielding Run Value with 7.

Olson’s win is not a surprise for those who watch the field. He has been the defensive anchor for the Braves for years. His ability to range to his left and right has saved runs all season. He led all first basemen in key defensive metrics.

The American League saw some first-time winners and historic firsts for their teams. Dillon Dingler of the Tigers won the catcher award for the second year in a row. He led all catchers in Fielding Run Value with 17 and Defensive Runs Saved with 15. Cole Young of the Mariners earned his first award in just his second big league season. With 16 Defensive Runs Saved, he topped American League second basemen. Taylor Walls of the Rays became the first shortstop in franchise history to win the award after saving 21 runs.

A Season of Defensive Greatness

Defense wins championships, and the 2026 season proved that point early. In the National League, Gabriel Moreno of the Diamondbacks won the catcher award. Only Dingler surpasses him in Defensive Runs Saved at the position. Joining Joe Mauer, he became the second catcher to secure both a batting title and Gold Glove in one year.

The Braves have a strong history of defensive excellence, but this award adds to a specific legacy. Olson’s continued dominance at first base keeps that tradition alive. He provides a steady presence that allows the rest of the infield to play with more confidence.

The voting results show that teams are still valuing the glove as much as the bat. The combination of 75% human voting and 25% data creates a balanced view of who is truly the best.

The postseason is where these skills matter most. These players have proven they can handle the pressure.

Braves fans can watch more of the team’s story unfold on their new streaming platform. Starting Monday, November 2 at 6:00 p.m. ET, evening programming begins on BravesVision, per Battery Power. The channel will feature a rotating lineup of Braves stories and memorable games. A new four-hour block will debut each day to keep fans engaged during the offseason.
