You’ve got to love a good fan interaction, especially when it involves a former pro athlete making a slick grab at a baseball game. Rodney Peete, the former NFL quarterback, had himself a moment on Wednesday during Game 2 of the Tokyo Series, and let’s just say Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy was not amused.

Playing third base for the Dodgers, Muncy tracked a pop-up drifting toward the stands. He reached over the protective netting, hoping to snag it for an out—only to have Peete snatch the ball right out of the air.

Peete was well within his rights to be fair. The ball was already in the crowd, which means it was fair game for fans. Judging by Muncy’s reaction, let’s just say he wasn’t exactly giving Peete a standing ovation.

If this were a high-stakes postseason game, maybe we’d have a new “Steve Bartman” moment on our hands. Lucky for Peete, the Dodgers won the game 6-3, sweeping the two-game series against the Cubs. So, no harm, no foul—other than maybe a bruised ego for Muncy.

Rodney Peete: Quarterback, Catcher, or Both?

For those who may not remember, Rodney Peete isn’t just any fan catching foul balls—he’s a former NFL quarterback who spent 15 seasons slinging passes for the Lions, Eagles, Redskins (now Commanders), Raiders, and Panthers.

He started 87 games in his career, finishing with a 45-42 record, 76 touchdowns, and 92 interceptions. They are not exactly Hall of Fame numbers but solid nonetheless. And hey, with hands like that, maybe he should’ve considered a career as a wide receiver.

Peete’s best season came in 1995 with the Eagles, when he went 9-3 as a starter and threw for over 2,300 yards. He also had a solid year with the Panthers in 2002, tossing 15 touchdowns. But let’s be honest—the real highlight this week was him stealing the show (and the baseball) in Tokyo.

Dodgers Start Strong, Cubs Still Searching

The Dodgers head back home to Los Angeles with a perfect 2-0 start to the season. They’ll kick off the U.S. portion of their schedule on March 27 at home against the Tigers. The Cubs, still searching for their first win, will return stateside to take on the Diamondbacks the same day.

As for Peete? Well, something tells me he might be wearing a glove to his next Los Angeles Dodgers game—just in case another fly ball comes his way.
