Pete Alonso just put his name in New York Mets history.

In the third inning Tuesday night against the Braves, Alonso got a 1–1, 95 mph fastball and absolutely lasered it the other way, a two-run shot to right-center that gave him home run No. 253.

That’s not just another homer, it’s the one that moved him past Darryl Strawberry for the most homers in franchise history.

Citi Field erupted as Alonso rounded the bases. It was a fitting ovation for a guy who’s been the face of Mets power hitting since the moment he arrived in 2019.

Alonso’s having another big year, hitting .264 with 27 homers and 95 RBIs so far. He made his fourth straight All-Star team last month, and it’s the fifth Midsummer Classic nod of his career.

It’s been a long time since Strawberry set that mark back in the ’80s, but now it belongs solely to Alonso. He’s been a slugger built for New York, and apparently built to keep adding to a record that could stand for a very long time.
