Jazz Chisholm Jr. spent Monday night enjoying a moment that few Major League Baseball players ever experience. The Yankees second baseman appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, discussing everything from New York’s World Series aspirations to an unexpected wardrobe change that has become one of the stranger storylines of his season.

Less than 24 hours later, however, Chisholm found himself on the receiving end of a sharp jab from one of baseball’s most recognizable broadcasters.

During Tuesday’s game between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees, longtime Guardians radio announcer Tom Hamilton couldn’t resist taking a playful shot at the struggling infielder as Chisholm stepped to the plate.

“That’ll bring up Jazz Chisholm. Well, he predicted the Yankees will win the World Series. He did that last night on the Jimmy Fallon Show. Pretty amazing he got on the Jimmy Fallon Show batting .239,” Hamilton remarked during the broadcast.

The comment immediately stood out, especially given Chisholm’s offensive numbers this season.

Hamilton’s joke landed because it touched on a reality that has followed Chisholm throughout much of the season. Entering Tuesday’s game, the Yankees infielder owned a 98 wRC+, placing him among the less productive regular hitters in baseball. His strikeout rate ranked among the highest in the league, while his swinging-strike rate reflected ongoing issues with consistent contact.

While Chisholm has continued to provide value defensively at second base, his offensive production has fallen short of expectations. The combination of increased swing-and-miss tendencies and a decline in hard-hit contact has led to significant scrutiny of his performance.

Even so, Chisholm has never lacked confidence, and that confidence was front and center during his appearance with Fallon.

Stanton’s Pants Become an Unlikely Storyline

One of the more memorable segments of Chisholm’s interview centered on his recent switch to oversized baseball pants.

For years, Chisholm has embraced a baggier uniform style inspired by Jackie Robinson. Earlier this season, he experimented by borrowing teammate Trent Grisham’s pants to recapture that look. Eventually, he found an even larger option in the Yankees clubhouse: Giancarlo Stanton’s pants.

The size difference between the two players is substantial. Stanton is significantly taller and heavier than Chisholm, making the borrowed uniform stand out.

“Honestly, it was like last second, I couldn’t find the pants, and I was like, ‘Giancarlo, I need your pants,’” Chisholm told Fallon. “And he was like, ‘I don’t think you’re gonna fit, but you could try.’”

The change appeared to coincide with a brief offensive surge. Chisholm first wore Stanton’s pants during a May 15 win over the Mets and responded by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. He continued wearing them throughout a productive stretch and quickly grew fond of the look.

“I like the look a lot,” Chisholm told MLB.com. “Every time I wear it, I’m like, ‘Bro, it looks kind of cool,’ you know?”

Yankees Confidence Remains High

The interview wasn’t limited to fashion choices. Fallon also asked Chisholm about the Yankees’ chances of ending their championship drought.

Chisholm didn’t hesitate.

The Yankees star said he “for sure” believes New York will win the World Series this season, a prediction that aligns with the confidence he has displayed since arriving in the Bronx. The Yankees have positioned themselves as contenders thanks to a strong start, though plenty of baseball remains to be played.

Fans of rival clubs may question that prediction, and Hamilton’s comment suggests not everyone is buying into the hype just yet.

Still, Chisholm managed to generate headlines on consecutive days for entirely different reasons. On Monday, he was discussing championship dreams and borrowed pants on national television. By Tuesday, he was the target of a memorable one-liner from one of baseball’s most respected broadcasters.

One thing is certain: Hamilton was not particularly impressed by Chisholm’s Tonight Show appearance.
