All Atlanta Public Schools (APS) high schools with baseball and softball programs will soon receive upgraded fields through a new initiative honoring Braves legend Hank Aaron.
The Hank Aaron Diamonds project, announced Thursday at Truist Park, will bring new turf infields and major facility improvements to APS campuses over the next two years.
Four-school first phase begins this month
Groundbreaking for the first phase is set for later this month at Washington High School, Jackson High School, Mays High School, and North Atlanta High School.
According to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, construction will proceed in phases—four schools at a time—until every APS baseball and softball field is upgraded.
Funded by Henry Louis Aaron Fund
The initiative will be funded through the Atlanta Braves Foundation’s Henry Louis Aaron Fund, which supports projects that expand representation and access to baseball and softball at all levels.
“Hank Aaron was one of the greatest players this game has ever seen, but he was an even better person,” said Derek Schiller, President & CEO of the Atlanta Braves. “Through the Henry Louis Aaron Fund, we are proud and humbled to further his legacy of service with the Hank Aaron Diamonds, in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools.”
APS leaders call Braves project ‘transformational’
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson called the investment “transformational” for student-athletes across the district.
“We are extremely appreciative of this generous gift and the support of the Atlanta Braves Foundation,”Johnson said. “This partnership will be transformational for our baseball and softball student-athletes, as well as the schools and athletic programs that support them. This investment will have an impact on our schools for years to come.”
The Hank Aaron Diamonds project continues the Braves Foundation’s longstanding commitment to youth sports and community investment across metro Atlanta.
