The latest MLB power rankings from Baseball America are in. These rankings are like the preseason report card that gets everyone talking. And if you’re an Atlanta Braves fan, you’re probably feeling pretty good about where your team landed.
Braves Land at No. 2 Behind the Dodgers
Coming in at No. 2 behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Braves received a stellar 70 grade on the traditional 20-to-80 scouting scale. That’s impressive, considering the Dodgers were the only team to earn a perfect 80.
The Braves were the only team to receive a 70, making them the clear second-best squad heading into the season. Four teams received a 60 after them, but no one else came close to challenging Atlanta’s spot just beneath L.A.
Now, let’s address the obvious: A healthy Braves team in 2025 is expected to be miles ahead of their 2024 version. Baseball America’s Matt Eddy pointed out that injuries were the Achilles’ heel of last year’s team, causing them to drop nearly 250 runs from their 2023 total.
That’s a staggering difference, and it highlights just how much this lineup can do when they’re all on the field.
Injury Concerns Could Shake Things Up
Of course, health remains a factor. The recent injury scare involving outfielder Jurickson Profar adds to the fear leftover from last season. Profar jammed his wrist in a game against the Pirates, and luckily, he will be good to go for Opening Day.
That being said, the offensive core is still rock solid. With Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Michael Harris II leading the charge and former MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. working his way back from ACL surgery, this lineup has plenty of firepower. When Acuña is back at full strength, watch out.
Pitching Questions Loom as Season Nears
As for Atlanta’s rotation, it’s a mix of familiar and fresh faces. With Max Fried and Charlie Morton departing in free agency, the Braves are turning to Spencer Schwellenbach, Grant Holmes, and Ian Anderson to step up.
Let’s not forget Spencer Strider, the 2023 All-Star, who isn’t mentioned in the rankings but will certainly play a key role once he’s healthy again. So, all in all, the Braves are in a very good spot heading into the season.
No, they aren’t No. 1—yet. But if this team stays healthy and the new arms step up, they have every chance to close the gap on the Dodgers and make a serious push for another deep playoff run.
