Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies might be running out of time and options.

The 2025 season hasn’t been kind to the former two-time All-Star. With his offensive numbers sinking and fan patience wearing thin, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that the Braves are now “at least listening” to trade offers for the veteran infielder. While they’re not expected to pull the trigger before the trade deadline, Albies’ future with the team is now officially in doubt.

“Even with Atlanta All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies’ struggles this year, Atlanta plans to pick up his $7 million option this winter and will at least listen to trade offers,” Nightengale reported Tuesday.

The numbers paint a rough picture: Albies is slashing just .218/.297/.322, a far cry from the power-hitting, switch-hitting spark plug he was earlier in his career. Once a fan favorite and Silver Slugger standout, the 27-year-old’s production drop has become one of Atlanta’s biggest lineup concerns.

With two years of club options remaining and both at a budget-friendly $7 million, Albies would typically be seen as a strong value asset. But as the Braves eye another deep postseason run, performance matters more than contracts.

Still, Albies isn’t without defenders. Newsweek’s Drew VonScio argues that moving on from the second baseman would be premature, stating: “Given that Albies is with the Braves for so little money, it wouldn’t make sense for the organization to move on from him at all.”

Braves Have a History of Bold Moves

This is still the same Braves front office that dealt Orlando Arcia to Colorado once 26-year-old Nick Allen proved he was ready. Atlanta has shown it won’t hesitate when it’s time to reset the infield.

Albies could still turn things around. His teammate Michael Harris II recently did just that, snapping out of a slump to earn NL Player of the Week honors. And in baseball, momentum can flip overnight.

The warning signs are there, and Albies’ spot in Atlanta is no longer guaranteed. If he doesn’t finish strong, the next Braves roster shake-up could have his name on it.
