Braves Slugger Duvall Set to Part Ways with Atlanta

0

The Atlanta Braves’ 2024 season has officially come to a close. With a gut-wrenching 5-4 loss to the San Diego Padres, the Braves were swept out of the National League Wild Card Series. In turn, sending the team into the offseason to face a ton of question marks with the team including what to do with Adam Duvall.

A promising season ended in disappointment due to a slew of injuries. Now fans are left wondering what changes might be in store for the offseason. After all, the Braves haven’t won a playoff series since they hoisted the World Series trophy in 2021, and it’s clear something has to change to get them back to that level.

One name that’s coming up in talks about who may not return next season is veteran outfielder Adam Duvall. Cody Williams of FanSided highlighted Duvall as a likely departure for the Braves in 2025, citing his underwhelming performance in the 2024 season.

Once a power-hitting force for the Braves, Duvall’s numbers this year were a far cry from what fans had come to expect. In 104 games, Duvall posted a slash line of just .182/.245/.323, managing only 11 home runs and striking out 99 times. That’s a sharp decline from his 2021-2022 stats, where he blasted 28 homers and drove in 81 RBIs over 141 games.

Williams didn’t pull any punches, calling Duvall’s 2024 campaign “a disaster” and raising the question of whether the 36-year-old has reached the end of his career. It’s a tough one for fans who remember Duvall’s pivotal role in the Braves’ 2021 World Series run. He provided consistent power and served as a reliable bat during that run.

This season, however, was much different with a career-worst .568 OPS. It’s clear that Duvall’s offensive production just wasn’t there. While he still possesses power, it didn’t translate into consistent results at the plate, leaving the Braves in a tough spot when considering their roster for next season.

As Atlanta looks ahead to 2025, improving their offense will be a top priority if they hope to make another deep playoff run. And that could very well mean parting ways with Duvall. While he’s been a familiar face in the Braves’ clubhouse and a fan favorite, his struggles in 2024 may make it difficult for the team to justify bringing him back. The offseason market will tell if any other teams are willing to take a chance on the veteran outfielder, but for now, it seems like his time in Atlanta may be coming to an end.

It’s never easy to say goodbye to a player who’s played a key role in a team’s success, but if the Braves want to get back to the top, they’ll need to make some tough decisions—and Duvall’s future may be one of them.
