Baseball fans found themselves doing a double-take during the 2026 Home Run Derby after an on-screen graphic appeared to reveal the winner before the competition had even reached its conclusion. What initially looked like an awkward production mistake quickly sparked accusations on social media when the prediction matched the final result.
A Graphic Appears Too Soon
The confusion began after St. Louis Cardinals star Jordan Walker advanced through the semifinal round. Walker needed only seven home runs to eliminate Tampa Bay Rays slugger Junior Caminero and earn a place in the championship matchup. Following his interview with Lauren Shahadi, viewers watching the Netflix broadcast spotted a graphic that briefly appeared in the lower-left corner of the screen declaring, “Jordan Walker 2026 T-Mobile Home Run Derby Champion.”
At that point, Walker had not yet competed in the final.
The graphic appeared prematurely and immediately caught viewers’ attention, though many initially dismissed it as a simple production error. That changed when the championship round unfolded exactly as the graphic had indicated.
Social Media Explodes With Home Run Derby Rigging Claims
Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber opened the final by launching 11 home runs, setting a respectable target for Walker. The Cardinals star answered with an impressive performance of his own, blasting 12 home runs to capture the Home Run Derby crown. Walker sealed the victory with five consecutive home runs during the sudden-death portion of the competition, becoming the first player in Cardinals history to win the event.
Once Walker officially lifted the trophy, screenshots of the earlier broadcast mistake spread rapidly across X, where fans questioned how such a graphic could have appeared before the contest was decided.
One user posted, “Look at the time stamp of when I took this photo!!! Home run derby RIGGED!!!! This was right after the semi-finals.”
Another wrote, “Who caught this? Jordan Walker home run derby champion flashed on the screen for .2 seconds. We know if Walker wins this s*** is RIGGED 100%.”
A third user added, “MLB script leaked mid home run derby. S***s so fake man.”
Another simply wondered, “Home Run Derby is rigged? Some are saying.”
There is no evidence that the competition was manipulated. Broadcast graphics are often prepared in advance for multiple potential outcomes, and production crews occasionally display the wrong graphic by mistake. Similar errors have occurred during live sporting events over the years, particularly during fast-paced broadcasts where multiple graphics are queued for immediate use.
Walker Delivers Despite Hostile Crowd
Walker finished his Home Run Derby debut with 31 total home runs across the three rounds, overcoming Schwarber in the championship and delivering one of the biggest moments of his young career.
The event took place in front of a heavily pro-Philadelphia crowd, and Walker heard boos throughout much of the evening. The partisan atmosphere extended beyond the competitors, with sections of the crowd even booing a young ball boy after he dropped what would have been a routine fly ball.
Despite the hostile reception, Walker remained composed, outslugged Schwarber when it mattered most, and walked away with the 2026 Home Run Derby title. The broadcast error may have overshadowed part of the celebration online, but the official result remains unchanged, with no indication that the production error reflected anything beyond an unfortunate timing issue.
