A man was found dead hanging from a bridge just a few hundred yards from Dodger Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers played the St. Louis Cardinals inside the ballpark.
The unidentified man was discovered near Bernard Street and Stadium Way, according to information provided by the Los Angeles Police Department to the California Post.
The location is near Dodger Stadium, where thousands of fans attended Wednesday night’s MLB game.
Witness Called 911 After Seeing Body ‘In Plain Sight’
The Dodgers-Cardinals matchup began at 7:10 p.m., meaning the discovery was made while the game was underway. The contest eventually stretched into extra innings and concluded at around 10:10 p.m.
According to the report, police responded after receiving a 911 call from a witness who said a dead body could be seen “in plain sight.”
Officers subsequently arrived at the scene and began investigating the death.
An LAPD spokesperson told the California Post that authorities do not currently suspect foul play. The investigation, however, remains ongoing.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said the case was still “pending identification and legal next of kin.” The man’s identity had therefore not been publicly released.
Dodgers Let Multiple Leads Slip Away Against Cardinals
Meanwhile, play continued at Dodger Stadium, where Los Angeles endured a frustrating night on the field.
The Dodgers held leads of 3-0, 5-2 and 5-4 against St. Louis but couldn’t put the Cardinals away. St. Louis tied the game in the eighth inning after Báez doubled against Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott and then scored on Alec Burleson’s sacrifice fly.
Los Angeles had an opportunity to win the game in the ninth.
Teoscar Hernández delivered a ground-rule double before advancing to third on a wild pitch by Justin Bruihl. But Kiké Hernández struck out as a pinch hitter, and fellow pinch hitter Will Smith flied out, leaving the potential winning run stranded at third.
The Cardinals ultimately prevailed 8-6 in extra innings.
Ohtani Strikes Out Four Straight as Dodgers’ Slide Continues
Shohei Ohtani also endured an unusually difficult night at the plate, striking out four consecutive times for the first time this season. One of those strikeouts came in the 10th inning with an automatic runner positioned at third base.
The defeat continued a difficult stretch for the NL West-leading Dodgers, who have now lost six of their last eight games.
Outside the stadium, authorities were still working to establish the identity of the man found near Bernard Street and Stadium Way and complete their investigation into his death. Police had not indicated any connection between the incident and the baseball game.
