Cleveland Guardians pitcher Aidan Major suffered a frightening injury after taking a line drive directly to the face during a Single-A game in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Major, pitching for the Hill City Howlers against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, was struck in the top of the first inning on a scorching comebacker off the bat of Astros prospect Xavier Neyens. The 2-0 pitch came screaming back toward the mound, giving the young right-hander virtually no chance to react.

The ball slammed into Major’s cheek, and the pitcher immediately collapsed onto the grass in visible pain as players and fans fell silent inside the stadium. Trainers rushed from the dugout within seconds to tend to him while teammates looked on anxiously.

After several tense minutes, Major was helped onto a medical cart and taken off the field. Before leaving, he reportedly gave a thumbs-up gesture to the crowd, drawing applause from concerned fans who had just witnessed one of the scariest moments of the season for the Guardians’ farm system.

Major’s father, Chad, provided an update on social media that offered some relief following the terrifying scene. “Doing well considering the scary event,” Chad wrote on X. “Currently still in the hospital awaiting results from scans. He wanted to get back to the stadium to cheer on his teammates.”

The update immediately eased fears among Guardians fans who had been flooding social media with messages of support after clips of the incident began circulating online.

Even from the hospital, the young pitcher’s first concern reportedly centered on returning to support his teammates. That detail quickly resonated with fans who praised Major’s toughness after the brutal impact.

Strong Start To The Season Interrupted

Major entered the game as one of Cleveland’s more promising young pitching prospects. The former West Virginia standout has quietly put together a strong start to the season, posting a 3.10 ERA across 29 innings while continuing to climb through the organization’s system.

Scouts have pointed to his command and steady development early this year, making the injury even more difficult for the organization and fans watching his progress. The Guardians have invested heavily in developing pitching talent throughout their minor league system, and Major had emerged as one of the more intriguing names at the Single-A level.

The injury also served as another harsh reminder of how dangerous pitching can be at any level of baseball. Line drives back to the mound remain one of the sport’s most unpredictable hazards, often leaving pitchers with only fractions of a second to protect themselves.

Howlers Rally After Early Exit

Despite losing their starter almost immediately, the Hill City Howlers managed to regroup and hold off Fayetteville for a narrow 5-4 victory.

The game itself became secondary after the incident, with much of the attention shifting toward updates on Major’s condition throughout the night. Players from both teams appeared visibly shaken in the immediate aftermath, but Lynchburg managed to settle in and preserve the win in front of the home crowd.

For now, the focus remains entirely on Major’s recovery as the Guardians await the results of additional testing after a terrifying moment that left an entire stadium stunned.
