Mike Trout has heard the questions before. Every time the Los Angeles Angels fall further behind in the standings, the same speculation returns: will the franchise’s superstar finally ask out?
For now, Trout is shutting that conversation down completely. “I haven’t even thought about that yet. I’m not gonna talk about the trade stuff,” Trout said when asked about the possibility of requesting a trade from the Angels.
It was a short answer, but it spoke volumes about where the three-time American League MVP stands as the Angels continue to battle through another difficult season. The franchise has now gone more than a decade without reaching the postseason, extending a drought that has become one of the most frustrating stretches in baseball for both fans and players.
Trout Looking Healthy Again
Despite the loss, Trout’s start to the 2026 season has been one of the few encouraging developments for the organization.
After several injury-plagued years that limited his time on the field and forced him into extended designated hitter duties, Trout has looked healthier and more active early this season. The Angels have even returned him to center field, a position many wondered whether he would ever play regularly again after the wear and tear of recent seasons.
That decision alone says plenty about Trout’s current condition. The Angels appear confident enough in his health to put him back at one of the game’s most demanding defensive positions, and Trout has responded with strong play despite the team’s struggles around him.
Trade Rumors Continue To Follow Him
Still, the trade rumors are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
Whenever a future Hall of Famer remains stuck on a losing club, rival executives and fans immediately begin imagining blockbuster scenarios. Trout’s name has floated through those conversations for years, especially as the Angels repeatedly fail to build a consistent contender around him.
Any potential move would be complicated. Trout holds a full no-trade clause, meaning he controls his future entirely and would have to personally approve any deal. That gives him enormous leverage and keeps the situation firmly in his hands.
Angels Would Command a Massive Return
If the Angels ever did make Trout available, the return package would almost certainly be massive. Even with recent injury concerns, players with Trout’s résumé rarely become obtainable. Teams would line up for a chance to acquire one of the most accomplished players of his generation.
At least for now, though, Trout appears focused on one thing: playing baseball and trying to help the Angels turn things around rather than entertaining speculation about leaving Anaheim.
