Chris Taylor’s MLB career has officially come to an end, closing the book on a 12-year run that transformed him from a little-known draft pick into one of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ most dependable postseason players.

Major League Baseball confirmed that Taylor, 35, is retiring after spending the final stretch of his career with the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The announcement ends a journey that included two World Series titles, an All-Star appearance, and some of the most memorable October moments Dodgers fans have seen in recent years.

Taylor entered professional baseball without massive expectations attached to his name. The Seattle Mariners selected him in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft with the 161st overall pick, and he made his major-league debut two years later. His first two seasons in Seattle showed flashes of versatility, but it wasn’t until a midseason trade in 2016 that his career truly changed direction.

In June of that year, the Mariners sent Taylor to Los Angeles in exchange for pitcher Zach Lee. At the time, the move barely registered as a headline-grabbing transaction. It quickly became one of the most valuable pickups the Dodgers made during that era.

Taylor evolved into a cornerstone utility player for Los Angeles, capable of playing nearly every position on the field while consistently delivering in critical moments. His breakout season arrived in 2017 when he hit .288 with 21 home runs, 34 doubles, 72 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases while helping power the Dodgers to the World Series. That same postseason, he captured National League Championship Series MVP honors after tormenting opposing pitching throughout October.

Over the next several MLB seasons, Taylor became synonymous with the Dodgers’ championship window. He earned an NL All-Star selection in 2021 and built a reputation as one of baseball’s most reliable playoff performers.

The Moment Dodgers Fans Will Never Forget

His signature moment came during the 2021 National League Wild Card Game against the St. Louis Cardinals. In a tense, winner-take-all matchup at Dodger Stadium, Taylor launched a dramatic walk-off home run into the night, instantly cementing himself in Dodgers postseason history.

The blast sent the stadium into chaos and added another unforgettable chapter to the Dodgers’ modern playoff run. For many fans, it remains the defining image of Taylor’s career, calm under pressure before delivering one of the franchise’s biggest postseason swings in recent memory.

Taylor eventually captured two World Series championships with Los Angeles, winning titles in 2020 and again in 2024. But baseball’s relentless roster churn eventually caught up with him. After the Dodgers’ second championship run, the organization released Taylor early in the 2025 season.

Closing Out a 12-Year MLB Career

He stayed in Southern California, signing with the Angels organization and appearing in 30 games while struggling offensively, posting a .179 batting average with a .278 on-base percentage and .321 slugging percentage.

Even as his production declined late in his career, Taylor’s overall body of work remained impressive. He retires with 110 home runs, 200 doubles, 91 stolen bases, 443 RBIs, a .248 batting average, and a .746 OPS.

For Dodgers fans, though, the numbers only tell part of the story. Taylor built his reputation through versatility, clutch performances, and a knack for delivering when the spotlight was brightest. Few players embodied the Dodgers’ successful run over the past decade quite like he did.
