Fans have been waiting — and waiting — to see Ronald Acuña Jr. back in action. After nearly a full year off the diamond recovering from his second torn ACL, the wait is finally over for Braves Country.

Acuña’s return began in the low-stakes world of the Florida Coast League. But if his first game back is any indication, the fireworks are about to start again in Atlanta.

Third at-bat. First game action in nearly 12 months. And what does Acuña do? He leaves the yard. A no-doubt home run that served as both a personal milestone and a gut punch to every pitcher who thought he might ease his way back. The swing was smooth. The contact was loud. The result? Classic Acuña.

And don’t forget what happened before the homer. In his second at-bat, he ripped a line drive — a hard-hit warning to the rest of the league that this comeback might not come with a slow ramp-up. It’s early, and it’s rehab. It’s the FCL. But man, this is what Braves fans have been missing.

Atlanta’s offense has been underwhelming. The pitching? Serviceable. But the bats ranked 21st in runs scored with one of the league’s most talented offensive rosters on paper.

The outfield production has been particularly thin. What they need isn’t just a spark — they need a surge. And that’s exactly what a fully healthy Ronald Acuña Jr. can bring. This isn’t just any player coming back. This is an NL MVP. The guy who mashed 41 homers and swiped 73 bags in 2023.

When healthy, the guy plays with a swagger and explosiveness that can tilt a game, or a season. Few players in baseball are as capable of carrying a team on their backs, and right now, that’s the kind of lift the Braves could desperately use.

Now, to be fair, it’s still a process. Acuña’s return to the majors isn’t expected until late May at the earliest. The team will be cautious — understandably so — as he rebuilds strength, gets his timing back, and ensures there are no setbacks. But for Braves fans, watching him homer in his first rehab game is the clearest sign that the wait might be worth it.

Because when Ronald Acuña Jr. is right, the Braves aren’t just better — they’re dangerous. And if this version of Acuña is even close to MVP form, the National League better watch out. Atlanta’s about to get its heartbeat back.
